A Line In Nature
vizKult proposition + reading group
Urban Foraging Group : Winter Reading, Viewing, and Discussion Group
Fall/Winter 2010/2011 @ The Public School
As winter descends on the city and the vegetation beings to die out, it would seem like the right time to initiate a series of readings and screening on the topic of nature for the duration of the winter months, and come spring perhaps start a new season for Urban Foraging Group (season 2?)
I would like to trace the views of nature throughout time from the perspectives of art, philosophy, and social/anthropology. Each session can include screenings and trips to locations related to each grouping, and possibly invite writers or artist to address certain subjects.
sign-up to for information on readings, dates, and locations:

I'm launching a sandbox for my many rough propositions, thoughts, musings, etc. called vizKult, a play on visual culture that alludes to the idea of vision & the visual as being a kind of cult.
I just returned from a month long stay in Bucharest, Romania. While I was there I made several exploratory pieces. I will eventually roll them out under vizKult proposition: No Dogs Were Harmed.
For starters here is an installation of books I made while in Romania w/videos by Brian Zegeer:
Composition/Entropy

I've put together After Image, an exhibition based loosely around propositions regarding the image in art. The idea for the exhibition was to seed an idea, written, or visual, and have other artist respond. The results are the text and the assembled works.
The text included comments by Jon Meyer and Ama Saru. The art work included in the exhibition by Darren Bader, Hsiao Chen, Kelsey Harrington, Ariel Herrera, Lansing-Dreiden, Jon Meyer, John Monteith, Arthur Ou, Yadir Quintana, Ama Saru, Antonio Serna, Suzanne Song, Peggy Tan, and Matthew Wilson.

Wholesale Milk/Freckles Studio is host the first CUNY wide Art MFA meet-up/exhibition: Hello, My Name is CUNY. Similar to Open Works, we will open our doors to all the art from the CUNY system. Hopefully then we can see the threads running through the public system.
Subscribe to the CUNY Art MFA Group email list : Open to all curent and alumni of the CUNY system. Or visit the CUNY Art MFA Group page online.
Wholesale Milk opens at Freckles Studio. The first gallery post-economic meltdown that is looking forward to it's closing date: April 30th. Long Live Temporary Spaces!
Somethings we hope to happen, a CUNY wide "open" exhibit and a small show of thematic works.
Labor Party: An art project in the form of a party, presented by the MFA Department and the Performance and Interactive Media Arts program (PIMA) of Brooklyn College in partnership with Industry City Art Project. Labor Party was organized as a part of the Brooklyn College graduate class 'Collaborative Strategies,' led by Jennifer McCoy and Michael Connor.
Open Works!: a project operating within Labor Party is an experimental public event that attempts to analyze democratic (horizontal) vs hierarchical (vertical) critique within the artist community. (n.b. The project wasn't fully realized because of external factors imposed on it's scope. This did however bring up larger questions regarding 'public' and 'audience' of art events.) Event organizers: Ama Saru, Hsiao Chen, Peggy Tan, and me.
Several issues of Good Morning Baghdad, were added to the E-flux exhibit OUT NOW!. Other work in the exhibit included work by Martha Rosler, a Brooklyn College Alumni ('65), and activist Kathy Kelly, (Voices in the Wilderness, Voices for Creative Non-Violence). Coincidentally I had met with Kathy Kelly along with Paul Chan at an NYPL event The Art of Disarmament back in 2006.
Brookyln College Open Studios, for 2 nights only trek out to the end of the Q or 2 line- bring a book it's a long ride, but much appreciated if you can come!! Brooklyn College, Boylan Hall, 2900 Bedford Avenue, Brooklyn, NY - Google Map
